It seems like years that Celine Dion has graced morning television with a live concert, and it was well worth the wait for fans who showed up in person, no doubt waiting hours and hours for a great spot. And now, in perpetuity, thanks to video, we can all relieve the moment.
The 46-year-old singer has been in her longtime residency in Las Vegas at the Colosseum, having returned earlier this year after the death of her husband and longtime manager Rene Angelil, after a long battle with cancer. She shared her grief with the public and live streamed the funeral, and when she returned to the stage delivered an emotional tribute to the man who launched her career when she was still a teen.
In her in interview with Today Show co-anchor Matt Lauer she opened up about the death. She said, “It’s been a journey. It’s been hard. Seeing the love of your life suffering for the last three years has been really hard, but millions of people are going through this.”
Continuing, she said, “I feel very strong because, not only that he loved me so much — for many, many lives to come — gave me three magnificent kids, so much knowledge, stability and confidence.”
She went on to speak of how their three sons — 15-year-old René-Charles and 5-year-old twin Eddy and Nelson — have been coping in the aftermath.
She said, “When I feel good, the kids are feeling great, and when the kids are feeling great, I feel good. But I think it’s all about feeling very strong and positive. They sense that Mom is okay. They know what’s going on. They know that dad is not coming back.”
Continuing, she said, “They know they have to live with him, but differently. I didn’t make this like a drama thing. I’m very thankful that the way that he passed was not dramatic in front of the children.”
Now as time marches on, and as she regains her place in the music world, there’s huge anticipation over her next album, which is due out on August 26th. It’s a French album this time around, ‘Encore Un Soir.
Outside at The Plaza Celine Dion dazzled the audience with some of her greatest hits including the iconic 1990s classic ‘Because You Love Me.’ She even covered another iconic classic, ‘Over the Rainbow.’
