Blake Lively: Weight Loss, Diet Tips and Workout Routine Revealed

Blake Lively’s diet and fitness routine is revealed! For those wondering about ‘The Shallows’ star’s amazing weight loss and physique just months after giving birth need wonder no more. Her trainer gives us the scoop on her workout routine and her dietary strategy.

It’s a few years since she rose to fame as Serena in the must-see ‘Gossip Girl’ CW drama of the late Aughts. Now fast forward she’s 28, expecting another child with husband Ryan Reynolds. And lately she’s been raising eyebrows with her bikini-clad performance in Jaume Collet-Serra’s shark thriller ‘The Shallows.’

Yes, she does battle with a shark. Yes, all while wearing a bikini. But this is not the bikini flick of the 1960s that saw Raquel Welch and Jane Fonda become pinup poster icons.

No she’s actually doing real battle, insofar as cinema is real, and so this all begs the question, what was her workout like and what was her diet. And now the details emerge for the curious.

Blake Lively told Marie Claire, “I had to be in just a bikini. So for vanity’s sake, that was an issue.”

She went on to say, “They didn’t hire a stunt double until the last two weeks of shooting. So everything I did—underwater stunts, flipping off of a buoy—it was incredibly physically and emotionally demanding.”

As for those workouts, her trainer Don Saladino told People, “We would do an upper body workout Monday, lower body Tuesday. Wednesday was a playful pool workout where she would do laps.”

Now lest we think, ah, well, she’s an A list actress, has the whole day to focus on looking amazing, Saldano explained that this was all accomplished with amazing time efficiency. He said, “We weren’t in [the gym] for three, four, five hours a day. It was max an hour. Maybe a couple of special days it went over a little bit, but the reality is she has a baby, and she’s a working woman.”

Saladino laid out the framework of the rigorous diet Blake Lively followed. He says she focused on high quality foods like organic fruit and vegetables, along with wild fish — not farmed — and free-range eggs. The key here, avoiding toxins from pesticides and other chemicals.

She didn’t skip breakfast. Well, that’s an old standby, and her breakfast consisted of eggs prepared in coconut oil plus vegetables and fruit so as to fuel those grueling morning workouts.

It’s not to say carbs were ruled out, just carefully chosen; rice, potatoes and fruit. Processed carbs, of course were a no-no. Her diet also included some familiar supefoods such as flaxseed, coconut oil, and dark chocolate.

Overall the focus was the old 80/20 rule allowing for “cheating” 20 percent of the time. The “cheats” for her were the likes of pizza and pasta.

So there you have it. The classic formula, diet and exercise, no matter how we spin it or who our trainer is or is not. We just have to put in the work. No one can argue that Blake Lively looks amazing in the movie as she did out and about in paparazzi snaps and on the red carpet. Nowadays, she’s expecting another child and we imagine we’ll see the cycle repeat. Lose the baby weight, look amazing all over again.
