Now the long-awaited Honda Civic: Future Now Tour kicked off at the Philips Arena in Atlanta and was streamed live worldwide by TIDAL. As usual, the concert was trending on social media as fans captured the moments in pics and video — you can see some of the best of them below.

When they made the original announcement on ‘GMA’ the 23-year-old Nick Jonas said he was “so excited to get in front of the fans and curate the moment.” For her part, 23-year-old Demi Lovato said, “What I hope comes out of it all is we have an incredible time.”

Now a few months later, Nick Jonas’ album ‘Last Year Was Complicated’ was released in advance of the tour and Demi Lovato’s most recent, ‘Confident’ has been out since late last year. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the live performances of the hit songs that have been in the airwaves and going viral on YouTube, VEVO and elsewhere.

It’s just one small part of an unfolding story of two former Disney Channel stars who have survived unscathed to become bona fide pop music stars as adults. Nick Jonas is no longer of the now defunct teen idols the Jonas Brothers and Lovato is far away from the ‘Barney’ days. They’ve both been able to avoid the typical perils that stall or even stymie others from making that transition. Demi Lovato emerged on the other side of rehab years ago and we haven’t seen a tabloid drama since (except the ones that are “fictional” of course).

On the big night, Jonas’ Tweeted: “It’s been a crazy couple of months… from album release to starting #FutureNow. Truly awesome feeling here in ATL today. #hondacivictour.” Lovato Tweeted: “Love you @NickJonas. Thank you for taking this ride with me. #HondaCivicTour #FutureNow.

Clearly the performers were excited and so were the fans. The live tour also drew some positive reviews from music critics.

There were even a few surprises. Not least, a guest appearance from multi-Grmamy winning Atlanta rapper T.I. for a duet with Demi Lovato of his 2008 smash hit ‘Live Your Life’ which originally featured Rihanna.

And for the costume watchers, Lovato did not disappoint as she wore a number of outfits including a bejeweled black catsuit with a black leather Wonder Woman-style belt. She also wore a daring black leotard with thigh-high boots and a slinky, see-through floor-length black veil.

And this is just the beginning. The tour continues through the summer, wrapping on September 17th in Inglewood, California.
