For months now, the 61-year-old co-anchor of CBS This Morning has been documenting her weight loss journey, and she’s just reached a new milestone. She’s gone from her starting weight of 184.5 pounds to 156.8. It was last September that she posted the starting-weight pic, and now she’s got a much smaller number to report. That’s a 27.7 pound weight loss.

She said, “In 9 months have a baby??? orrrr lose 27.7 lbs on @weightwatchers? I chose to count points.” She went on to say, “Almost there” but didn’t say what her goal weight is. No doubt she’ll let us know when she reaches it.

Last year, in an interview with E!News, she first confirmed she was using Weight Watchers, and said at the time that “what’s great is you can eat whatever you want and you decide how you want to your points” and she went on to say of her progress, “Slow and steady wins the race.”

Yes, and it’s the slowness that really is crucial. We’re reminded of that all the more so with this recent study of ‘Biggest Loser’ contestants who have gained the weight back; the study reveals that their bodies literally fight to regain those lost pounds. Sure it’s exciting to see someone lose half their body weight in a matter of months, but seeing the weight return, well, not so much so.

And as Gayle King continues to lose, so too does Oprah Winfrey who, as a stakeholder of Weight Watchers has also become its latest brand ambassador, following after many others including Jennifer Hudson and Jessica Simpson, and most recently announced a 30-pound weight loss and confirmed that partner Stedman Graham has joined her in the program.

Earlier this year she spoke about her experience with Weight Watchers on CBS This Morning. Noting this is her third time around, she said, of this time around, “My mindset is different. It’s slow — baby steps — but it definitely works.” She also called the points system the “genius” of the program saying, “You can decide how to use your points.
