Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge graces the cover of British Vogue 100th issue. It marks her first time ever to cover the fashion magazine and you can see the stunning photos and get the details right here.
It’s not a tell-all interview that’s drawing attention, it’s history being made. Not only is this the centennial issue of British Vogue, but it marks the first time the Duchess of Cambridge has been its cover star. Not only that, but for the international fashion icon that she has become, it’s also, surprisingly, her first ever photo shoot for a fashion magazine.
The photos by famed British photographer Josh Olins, which you can see below, are quickly going viral. They’re classics, and will rank up there with many such iconic Vogue photo shoots. There are eight photos in total, and all were shot in January, in the Norfolk countryside, revealing the Duchess in a rustic and naturalistic setting.
And these are no ordinary fashion pics. The photo shoot is in partnership with the British National Portrait Gallery (NPG). Two of the portraits will hang in the famed gallery as part of the ‘Vogue 100: A Century of Style’ exhibition. Kate Middleton is a patron of the NPG.
In a written statement, NPG director Nicholas Cullinan said of the photo shoot, “Josh has captured the Duchess exactly as she is – full of life, with a great sense of humor, thoughtful and intelligent, and in fact, very beautiful.”
It’s been now five years since Kate Middleton married Prince William and became the Duchess of Cambridge and she’s quickly cemented her iconic status and drawn comparisons to Princess Diana along the way. While she has had nothing to say of the diet and exercise routine that have kept her famously slender even through two pregnancies, there’s been no shortage of speculation.
So not surprisingly, in keeping with her tradition this is not a photo shoot that in any way lends itself to that kind of glitzy Hollywood red carpet fashion style. Instead, it highlights her casual style and, no doubt, pieces of the wardrobe will sell out online. In fact, fashionistas have already identified the striped top as a Petit Bateau and it’s priced under a hundred dollars.
Certainly not the first time she’s been seen in affordable fashion. During her trip to India with Prince William — where the couple posed on a bench in front of the Taj Mahal, in homage to the famous photo of Princess Diana — she famously wore souvenir earrings valued at just a few dollars.
