Donald Trump’s ex-wife, Marla Maples opened up about her shock elimination from ‘Dancing with the Stars.’ Alongside pro partner Tony Dovolan, the actress spoke about her experience on the show and more in a live interview on ‘GMA.’
What’s a season of ‘Dancing with the Stars’ without a shock elimination. We sure got one in week 4 as Marla Maples and her pro partner Tony Dovolan were voted off. The pair had delivered an admirable performance, a waltz to ‘Part of Your World,’ the ballad from The Little Mermaid, but scored only 28 out of a possible 40.
Marla Maples, of course, is much in the news anyway, as one of Donald Trump’s ex-wives. The 52-year-old actress, radio and television personality was married to the now-GOP Presidential front runner for six years (1993-1999) and the former couple had one child together, a daughter, Tiffany Trump, 22, who Maples has raised on the West Coast, as a single mother.
Now fast forward a few decades and Marla Maples is in the glare of the spotlight once again, this time by choice. Making the customary morning-after appearance on ‘Good Morning America’ as the latest castoffs, she and her pro partner, Tony Dovolan reflected upon the weeks on the show.
Speaking with co-anchors George Stephanopoulos and Robin Roberts, Maples said of her elimination, “I was so sad. Truly my heart is broken. I love the show.”
She went on to say, “I’ve had a rough few years and taught me how to not walk again but to dance and I hope we can keep sharing the fun.” She went on to praise Dovolan, calling him a “great teacher.”
For his part, he said, “I was stunned. I have to say for the first time in 21 seasons where I actually did not expect this at all. You know, because we had such a great journey she was growing every single week. It felt like we were really hitting our stride and when they announced us I literally was speechless.”
Marla Maples went on to speak of her daughter Tiffany Trump, and said, “She’s extremely sad we’re still not in it because she knows how much it meant to me and Tony and how hard we worked. We worked so hard. ”
She added, “She’s proud of her mom and that’s what you want your babies to be. You want to inspire your children and I’m so grateful for all the women and daughters that have been so supportive and I just hope we can keep inspiring each other. You want to inspire your children and I’m so grateful for all the women and daughters that have been so supportive and I just hope we can keep inspiring each other.”
Not a surprise, of course, that Marla Maples was on DWTS or that recently she was a guest host on another ABC staple, ‘The View.’ Whether we’ll be seeing more of her as the campaign and the interest in all things and all persons associated with Donald Trump continues, remains to be seen, of course.
Back in the days when all we had were tabloids — no celebrity and gossip blogs, no social media, not even America Online! — the affair made headlines as did Trump’s divorce from first wife Ivana Trump. In a 2013 interview on ‘Oprah: Where Are They Now?’ she said, “I still love Donald.” and went on to say of Trump’s three children with his first wife, “I love Eric and Ivanka and Donnie so much.”
You can see what became the final performance below, along with the full interview video as Tony Dovolan and Marla Maples open up about their DWTS elimination.
