Iggy Azalea graces the cover of Schon! magazine, and that’s just the very beginning. As she relaunches her career this year, she’s outspoken on coping with cyberbullying and suicidal thoughts. She’s also speaking out about her wedding plans with fiance, NBA star Nick Young. Get the latest updates on the unfolding story of the Australian rapper’s comeback.
The 25-year-old Iggy Azalea is back on the scene on all fronts, in preparation for her new album, ‘Digital Distortion.’ She has released the album’s lead single, ‘Team,’ and its dance video — which you can see below — and she has caused quite a stir not just with the provocative photo shoot, but with the comments she has made in Schon! magazine. In the aftermath, she has also gone public, saying that the magazine photoshopped her hips and thighs to be thinner.
It’s one of many major interviews she’s given in recent weeks, and is speaking out and pushing back against the months and months of criticism and backlash she’s been subjected to on all fronts. It’s not just the usual cyberbullying on social media and the hordes of Internet trolls that many a celebrity has had to contend with. She’s been put on the defensive on many levels from plastic surgery speculation to cultural appropriation accusations.
She told ELLE Canada in an interview, “I love talking to fans, but then you end up in some random comment section and accidentally find things that can really affect you—whether you realize it or not at the time. It’s tough.”
Now fast forwarding a few weeks, she is telling Schon! magazine (via E!News), “Last year, I felt like I was definitely not in control of the media’s narrative of me. It made me feel very out of control of my own life or my ability to have my own perception of who I was. You don’t want someone else writing your narrative and making you the villain.”
Continuing, she went on to say,”Then I just realized that, you know what, you can’t control it and I think I accepted that and moved on to living my life.”
She then raised some eyebrows when she said, “”I had to have a psychotic break-down last year. I felt tired and stressed out. Now, I feel like my energy’s been renewed.”
As the quote went viral naturally, Iggy Azalea clarified, and said, in an interview (video below) with Carson Daley on 97.1 AMP Radio, via Billboard), “”Well, not psychotic. I’m a bit of an exaggerator.” Elaborating, she said, “I think it can get a bit claustrophobic — this whole gossip thing that we have in the entertainment industry. It almost reminds me of a soap opera.”
In debuting the comeback single, ‘Team,’ Iggy Azalea spoke with radio station Power 106 Los Angeles (video below), acknowledging that during those months of struggles with her career and the onslaught of criticism she did feel suicidal. She said, “Sometimes I did. Sometimes I would drive through the canyons to get to my horses and I would be like, ‘What if I just kept driving off the canyon?’ Sometimes I would feel like that.”
She went on to say, “I would always just think, ‘If i can just get down to my horses and go ride my horses and see how I feel after I do that,’ and I always felt better after I did that.”
Iggy Azalea also made news when she revealed that she and her fiance, NBA L.A. Lakers star Nick Young have postponed their wedding. She told, Ryan Seacrest on his radio show (video below), “I’m planning my wedding, actually moved my wedding because I have to tour so my wedding plans are changing.”
She went on to explain, “It was going to happen at the end of the year but now I have to go to work so we’ll probably have to wait until the end of the next basketball season to do that. So that kind of is a bit sucky, but it’s all right.”
It’s been quite a promo blitz, and the new single, ‘Team’ and the dance video have also gone viral, so once again, she’s making news for making music, and not just for being the object of (mostly manufactured) controversies of various sorts.
