Adele opened up about the sound problems during her Grammy Awards performance of ‘All I Ask’ and, during her lively appearance on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ she had a chance to have a re-do performance. She also opened up on other topics as well and took part in some fun and games and pranks
Yes, it was during her long-awaited appearance on the show and the chat with the host, Ellen DeGeneres just days after her appearance on the Grammy Awards stage that was beset with technical glitches that marred what would have been a characteristically spellbinding performance.
After that performance, Adele Tweeted to explain what had gone wrong, saying, at the time, “The piano mics fell on to the piano strings, that’s what the guitar sound was. It made it sound out of tune. S— happens.”
And in a follow-up Tweet, she said, “Because of it though… I’m treating myself to an in n out. So maybe it was worth it.” Referring to the regional In-N-Out Burger franchise, so quite an indulgence for the superstar who has in previous interviews revealed her diet to be primarily plant-based or vegan. And, social media by and large rallied around her, and turned their ire instead on other targets including, erroneously, Justin Bieber.
Adele went into great detail to explain the mishap and told host Ellen DeGeneres, “Sound check was great. Went really well. I was really excited. And then during the changeover, the microphones fell onto the piano strings which is what the guitar noise was. Some people thought it was [Justin] Bieber rehearsing, but it wasn’t him. We’re on great terms. And then it kind of put the whole thing off really.”
She went on to explain, “I heard it straight away. And I wanted to turn, I knew what it was because in rehearsal on Saturday they were like we’re going to double mic the piano just in case one doesn’t work. And I knew where the mic was and I wanted to turn around and lift it up, but I froze.”
She later added, “Next time I have any sound issues I’m going to stop. I’ll be like, sorry that’s not working for me. If we have time to do it again, let’s do it. Otherwise, bye!”
She went on to say of her performance, that she thought it went “pretty well,” and added, “I’m always a bit pitchy anyway. It’s emotion.”
Continuing, she said, “I woke up the next morning to people in England being like, ‘We still love you, don’t worry,’ and I was like, ‘I didn’t ask you if you still loved me, but thanks.’ I was so embarrassed.”
She went on to confess how she really felt, saying, “I cried pretty much all day. In fairness I would have cried if it went really well, as well. If it was a standout performance, I would have cried as well. I always cry.”
She spoke about her stage fright which she says affects her “more than ever” and she opened up further, saying, that “more successful, the more pressure there is.”
Later in the show, it was time for pranks, and Adele took part in quite a doozy and all the while revealed some impressive acting talent. She posed as a customer at a local Jamba Juice and was taking orders from Ellen DeGeneres, speaking to her in an earpiece and becoming quite the troublemaker with special requests such as, “I’ll have a large, but can I have it in a small cup?” The rest is pure hilarity and must be seen to be appreciated, so no more spoilers, just check it out below.
Later, not least, she recorded a voicemail message for Ellen DeGeneres, giving her international chart-topping ‘Hello’ some new lyrics. And, as noted, she performed — with flawless vocals and a cooperative sound system this time — her song, ‘All I Ask’ and delivered a second performance on the show of her latest single, ‘When We Were Young.’
