Gwen Stefani has been in the news and not just for her much-anticipated solo album. What? There’s an album? Some might say, but, yes, there’s an album in the works. She made history at the Grammy Awards by shooting the music video for her new single, ‘Make Me Like You’ during a commercial break in partnership with retailer Target. Well, as the genre is getting to be decades old, artists are increasingly tasked with trying to come up with something innovative.

In her interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, she spoke about it, saying, “I can’t believe that happened. That was a trip.”

She went on to reveal that quite a bit of work went into the four frenetic minutes that viewers saw. She said, “They’d been talking about it since Christmas and planning it. Every little detail counts. There’s hundreds of people working there. I personally worked on it probably like six days, maybe, at the most; like seven in the morning til three in the morning.”

All fine and fascinating, sure, but there was that other question that the song has raised. Just who is it about? The dutiful Jimmy Kimmel did have to ask her, of course, and in signature comedic fashion said, “You had a neon sign [in the music video] that said Blake’s. Now, was that for Blake Lively or Blake Griffin, or perhaps maybe another?”

Indeed! She told the host, and collectively the rest of us, “”I don’t know. That was just a coincidence. I don’t know why they put that. That was weird.”

Naturally, this answer did not satisfy the host or the rest of us either, so he went on to say flat out, “That song is about Blake Shelton?”

This prompted Gwen Stefani to laugh and to confess and say, “It is, actually. I will admit that that song is about that guy, yeah.”

So there we have it. Asked and answered! It’s the second of two seemingly autobiographical songs that Gwen Stefani has released in recent months. ‘Used to Love You’ was the first, which would seem to have to do her split from estranged husband, musician Gavin Rossdale, last summer.

So much has happened since that shock announcement! The couple had been together many years prior to getting married and have three children together, with the youngest, Apollo, being just two years old and the others, still in their first decade of life; nine-year-old Kingston and seven-year-old Zuma. It was one of those cataclysmic breakups, at least in the celebrity watching world.

This, of course soon followed by incessant rumors that Stefani was dating fellow coach on NBC’s ‘The Voice,’ Blake Shelton who also shocked celeb-watchers when he and Miranda Lambert announced their finalized divorce after the fact.

And when prompted, Gwen Stefani revealed a bit more about the album and making music out of her circumstances. She said, “”What’s so crazy is that sometimes tragedy, if you really absorb it, you can turn it into something beautiful.

Continuing, she added, “And this whole album is about trying to take something that’s awful, and just, I don’t know, healing from it and then turning it into something beautiful.”

So now we have the latest installment of this real-life drama of divorce and moving on and finding love again playing out before our very eyes. You can see Gwen Stefani talk about Blake Shelton and ‘Make Me Like You’ in the video below.
