The death of BMX legend Dave Mirra at age 41 has come as sudden and shocking news to the world. Many fellow sports figures and celebrities have taken to Twitter to offer condolences and so share memories and to pay tribute. Here’s a roundup of what is being said.

The news of Dave Mirra’s death in Greenville, North Carolina, was widely reported in major media. Confirming many of the reported details, the Greenville Police Department issued a press release on their official Facebook page, noting that his body was found in his pickup truck and that the cause of death is an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Reportedly he was visiting friends in that area.

The BMX freestyle rider Dave Mirra was also well known to many as the host of MTV’s ‘Real World/Road Rules Challenge.’ In the video game world, he also had a presence, with the popular Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX video game series.

Just shortly before his death, he had left two final posts on Instagram, one was a tribute to his wife, Lauren Mirra and another, a photo of himself from high school days, riding his bike. Along with his wife whom he married in 2006 he also leaves behind two young daughters.
