Miranda Lambert debuted a new song, ‘Scars’ in a live concert in Nashville and opened up about the past year, alluding to her divorce from Blake Shelton. You can see the full performance and also hear what she has to say and hear her sing the tear-jerker in the video below, which has gone viral.
It’s not the first time Miranda Lambert has taken to the Nashville stage to allude to her divorce and coping in the aftermath. Last summer opened up and spoke of surviving on sad songs as she and and Karen Fairchild of Little Big Town sang ‘Girl Crush’ in a Nashville unplugged concert.
This time around, she was singing one at City Winery in downtown Nashville on stage with her friends, fellow country music artists Ashley Monroe, Shane McAnally and Nicolle Galyon.
She introduced the song by saying that her longtime collaborator and guitarist Scotty Wray had written the song many years ago. She said, “”So this song, I don’t know if I can do it without crying. Scotty Wray has been with me since I was 17. For a long time, he was my band. We have been through everything together, good and bad.”
Continuing, she said, “We both went through a really sh—y 2015 and we have the tattoos to prove it. He wrote a song a long time ago called ‘Scars’ I never felt like I could sing it until now.”
She went on to elaborate and added, “”I was never damaged enough to sing a song called ‘Scars.’ “It’s something you have to sell and really feel and really live and go through s**t, basically, to execute a song like that.”
With that, she launched into an emotional performance of the song which, make no mistake about it, is a heart-breaker of a song.
And,yes, we know the back story. We know a little something about the 2015 that she had. Her split with Blake Shelton was, to the outside world at least, quite sudden as they announced their divorce after the fact. While Blake Shelton and his romance with Gwen Stefani, grabbed headlines — helped along by appearing together week after week as coaches on NBC’s ‘The Voice’ — we’ve seen less of Miranda Lambert’s side of the story. She recently confirmed with a sweet Instagram pic that she’s dating fellow country music star Anderson East.
Last year, she told Cosmopolitan about getting over the divorce, and said, “Some of that might mean nights on my porch crying, drinking whiskey, and going, ‘Man, this sucks right now.'”
At the ACM awards, she gave us another glimpse as she said in her acceptance speech for the Female Vocalist of the Year Award that she “needed a bright spot this year.”
Now wwith this performance, she once again, gives us a glimpse into the past year that the rest of us witnessed through headlines and stories. See the full performance below and the introduction as Miranda Lambert opens up about her year and sings ‘Scars.’
