Kanye West Debuts ‘Real Friends,’ ‘No More Parties in LA,’ Announces ‘Swish’ Album Release Date

January 10, 2016

Kanye West premiered two new songs, ‘Real Friends” featuring Ty Dolla $ign and ‘No More Parties in LA’ featuring Kendrick Lamar, marking a reprise of G.O.O.D. Fridays. He also revealed the release date of his new album, ‘Swish.’

With tried-and-true fanfare, Kanye West is back. It was his wife, Kim Kardashian West, broke the news to her millions of followers of Twitter, as she Tweeted an emoji-filled announcement (below) of new music.

It’s a reprise of his previous G.O.O.D. Fridays, a weekly released of free music. He famously released 15 songs back in 2010 in the weeks preceding the released of his fifth album, ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.’

This time around as the new series kicked off, we got a bonus two songs. The first of the two is ‘Real Friends’ with rapper Ty Dolla $ign. It has such lines as — “Real friends, there’s not many of us / We smile at each other, but how many honest?” — which would seem to chronicle the phoniness that anyone can confront, and most particularly someone who’s in the spotlight.

The second song, ‘No More Parties in LA,’ — a snippet, actually — has particularly drawn notice as it’s West’s first-ever collaboration with Kendrick Lamar who is very much in the news these days for his near-record-breaking 11 Grammy Award nominations for his album, ‘To Pimp a Butterfly.’ He falls just short of equaling Michael Jackson’s 12 nods for the iconic ‘Thriller’ album. Yes, in all these years it’s the first time these two innovators of hip hop have collaborated.

The new album, ‘Swish,’ will be Kanye West’s seventh album, and he revealed that it’s due out on February 11th via Twitter (below). It’s his first since the platinum-certified ‘Yeezus’ of 2013, which received nearly universal critical acclaim. You can see the album cover art below, revealing a painterly portrait of an artist at work in the recording studio.

As for other tracks which reportedly will be on the new album, we’ve heard thus far ‘Only One, his collaborations with Paul McCartney. He also collaborated with McCartney, as well as Rihanna on ‘FourFiveSeconds.’ There’s also ‘All Day’ with McCartney plus Theophilus London, and Allan Kingdom. Additionally, he collaborated with Sia and Vic Mensa on ‘Wolves.’
