Joy Mangano opened up about the movie ‘Joy’ which is based on her life story of success as an entrepreneur and QVC pioneer which began with her Miracle Mop invention. She also weighed in on what it was like seeing Jennifer Lawrence portray her in the David O. Russell directed film.
Already a household name for QVC fans, and for others or least her inventions are known — of which the Miracle Mop may be the most well known. But the 59-year-old Joy Mangano holds more than 100 patents and has an inspiring life story. A single mother, striving to support her family, her now famous invention, launched her career as a multi-millionaire entrepreneur in classic all-American rags to riches fashion.
Now it’s been brought to the big screen by none other than David O. Russell, the five-time Oscar-nominated director of ‘American Hustle’ and ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ and none other than Jennifer Lawrence is portraying her. The movie also reunites the star with Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro. It has already received two Golden Globe Award nominations; for Best Picture and Best Actress for Jennifer Lawrence.
In her interview on ‘GMA’ with Lara Spencer (video below), that was indeed a question. What is it like having Jennifer Lawrence portray you on the big screen, to which she said, “Oh, my goodness, you know it doesn’t get any better than that.” She went on to say, “It’s a funny thing because from the moment we met, within a very short period of time, we were finishing each other’s sentences.”
She said of the movie, “I think it’s very inspirational. It will touch millions of people with many touch points because so many of us have ideas and inspirations and the [Miracle Mop] just represents all of that. And how many of us stuck it away and say, ‘You know, I don’t know, but if you believe in yourself and go after it.’ That really is the message.“
She went on to speak of the importance of perseverance in following one’s dreams and said, “But if you are able to stick to that, and no matter what anybody says, and follow through with it, and then be successful with it. But success in a way that’s so natural for me. It means helping other people with my products. That’s what success is.”
While on the program, Joy Mangano also met two aspiring women entrepreneurs who pitched their products, ‘Shark Tank’ Style. You can see the full interview video below of Joy ‘s interview, along with the trailer for the movie!
