One Direction on ‘X Factor UK,’ Final Performance Before Hiatus (Photos, Video)

December 14, 2015

One Direction gave their last performance before their hiatus on The X Factor UK and you can see the photos and video right here. Performing ‘History and their new single ‘Infinity’ the band that got their start on the long running reality TV show, returned for tributes and farewells.

One Direction

In the fast moving world of pop music, 18 months is a long time, but, 1D fans chimed in on social media with the hash tag #ThisIsNotTheEndOfOneDirection.

The four remaining members of the boy band — Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson — took to the stage on the season 12 finale night of the show that first brought them together five years ago and that saw them as third place finishers, but winners ever since. Yes, five years and five albums, and worldwide teen idol fame.

Their mentor, Simon Cowell told them after their performance, “‘Well, this takes me back five years ago when I met five guys, singing as solo artists, then I never could have predicted what happened next. I know you’re going to take a break, you deserve it.”

A reference, of course to the original five, as they are now minus Zayn Malik, who left the band earlier this year and is now signed to RCA Records.

But for the remaining four, it was more than a performance of their new single, ‘Infinity’ and their current hit, ‘History,’ both of which are from their newly released fifth album, ‘Made in the A.M.’ Several celebrities paid tribute in a video shown on the big screen. Among them fellow artists Little Mix and 5 Seconds of Summer, as well as acting legend Danny DeVito who had a cameo appearance in one of their music videos. Also on hand in the video to offer well wishes were James Corden, Robbie Williams, Wayne Rooney, and Jack Whitehall.

In fact, One Direction was on ‘The X Factor UK’ just a few weeks earlier, performing their single, ‘Perfect.’ But this performance, on the season finale, was not just another performance.

Liam Payne told the studio audience and the world, “We’ve had the most amazing five years. We’re sad we’re going away for a little while but we need it. You can see how happy we are, it’s genuine happiness.”
