Miranda Lambert opened up for the first time about her divorce from Blake Shelton in Cosmopolitan magazine. Formerly one half of country music’s power couple, she speaks out about their marriage and how she feels in the aftermath.
The couple’s divorce, which Blake Shelton filed for, announced only after finalized sent proverbial shock waves in the country music world. Although they had been married just four years, they had separately and collectively reigned as among the biggest stars and, as is typical, in the aftermath, there has been the endless sifting for clues and explanations for what went wrong.
For his part, Blake Shelton, with his newly confirmed relationship with Gwen Stefani, his fellow coach on NBC’s The Voice, presumably now a cross-genre music power couple is forming.
As for Miranda Lambert, in Cosmopolitan, (via ET) she says, “Marriage is a tough business, and we gave it our best college try.” She goes on to say of her former husband, “I had a great relationship with an amazing man so I know what good is. I have a great launching pad for the future. I will never take that for granted.”
She goes on to voice her heartbreak, over the now-dissolved marriage, saying, “Some of that might mean nights on my porch crying, drinking whiskey, and going, ‘Man, this sucks right now.'”
And, offering another glimpse into her state of mind, Lambert says, “I feel the sexiest when I’m in my element, which is playing music.” Elaborating, she adds, “It doesn’t really matter what I’m wearing necessarily or where I’m at, just on stage with my band playing music is sort of where I feel like I belong and that makes me feel sexy.”
For now, that’s all we know, but it’s much more than we previously knew. On stage months ago in Nashville, Lambert had merely dropped a throw away line about “living on caffeine” and “singing sad songs” and the moment was captured in a video which naturally went viral (which you can see below).
And with country music being a small world, the former couple have found their paths crossing more than once, including at the CMA Awards where co-host, true to irreverent form, made a joke about the couple’s divorce — at Blake Shelton’s expense. For her part, Lambert, in winning the Female Vocalist of the Year Award pointedly said that she “needed a bright spot this year.”
