Adele graces the cover of Rolling Stone, with no makeup in a stunning photo. Her interview is equally unfiltered as she speaks out on fame and her fear of it, her idol, Amy Winehouse, her relationship with her partner Simon Konecki and life as a mother, her diet and many other topics.

Adele has already set records, or perhaps we should say, obliterated records. Naturally the single ‘Hello’ whose music video had already set VEVO records debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 but along the way she set some other records as well. It was the first-ever single to sell more than a million downloads in a week. Just imagine what will happen when her album ’25’ is released.

And yes, it’s this extreme fame that is one of the topics she opens up about with Rolling Stone. She tells the publication, “People think I hate being famous. And I don’t. I’m really frightened of it.” She went on to open up about her musical idol, the late Amy Winehouse and said, “Watching Amy deteriorate is one of the reasons I’m a bit frightened. We were all very entertained by her being a mess. I was f—king sad about it, but if someone showed me a picture of her looking bad, I’d look at it. If we hadn’t looked, then they’d have stopped taking her picture.”

She also opened up about her relationship with Simon Konecki, father of her three-year-old son and dispelled rumors of a split, saying, “He’s so supportive. And that takes a very big man, because I’m very successful at what I do. My last boyfriend was uncomfortable with how successful I was, and the fact that he had to share me with lots of people.”

She also spoke glowingly of her young son, calling him her “paradise” and saying, “He’s a little angel. All the things I really like about myself, he brings out in me, and he’s the only person that tells me no. He completely rules me. He’s the boss of me, and it’s so funny for other people to watch, because I’m the boss of everything in my work life.”

And of course, over the years, much has been made over Adele’s weight and she has been subjected to body shaming over the years, and then, conversely, an excess of attention when she slimmed down a few years ago, speaking out at that time about her vegan diet and her exercise routine. Giving the ever excessively curious public an update, she said, “I’m not, like, skipping to the f—king gym. I don’t enjoy it. I do like doing weights. I don’t like looking in the mirror.” She went on to say, “Blood vessels burst on my face really easily, so I’m so conscious when I’m lifting weights not to let them burst in my face. And if I don’t tour, you’ll catch me [eating] Chinese!”

And more news on the health front, as Adele revealed she has quit smoking. She said, “I absolutely loved it, but it’s not that f—king cool when I’m dying from a smoking-related illness and my kid is, like, devastated.” She also said she had curtailed alcohol, saying, “I used to be able to drink anyone under the table and still be able to put on an all-right show. But with kids, hangovers are torture. They just know. They pick up on it and just go for you.”

And this being the era of the ‘squad’ thanks to Taylor Swift, she was asked to weigh in on that topic, too. She was characteristically candid, and of course, any quote remotely connected to Taylor Swift will get a lot of buzz. So Adele has given us a buzzworthy quote in saying, “I’ve heard about a squad. I wish my squad was all supermodels. We are, in our brains. I guess I have my own squad.”

She continued, adding, “It’s not as interesting as some of the other squads that are around right now. But maybe Rihanna can be in my squad! That would be really cool. Oh, God. She’s life itself, isn’t she? I love her.”

There’s much, much more to the interview. And thankfully so! After all, it’s been quite a while since we were able to talk about Adele’s new music and new album. At 27, her ’25’ album has finally arrived. You can see the entire interview here and the luminous cover below.
