Blake Shelton opened up about his divorce from fellow country music superstar Miranda Lambert in his most extended comments yet on television on the split that shocked the entertainment world. The NBC’s ‘The Voice’ coach was characteristically candid and at times lighthearted in his interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers.
Yes, it’s just been a few months since Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert announced their divorce after the fact, ending their four-year marriage and presumably future musical collaborations. The royal couple of country music was suddenly no more.
And yet quite literally the show must go on, even when both are on it. In this case, the annual CMAs with perennial co-hosts Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood were looming in the near future
Blake Shelton told host Seth Meyers, “This year’s going to be awkward at the CMAs, speaking of jokes. Because…it’s such a family. Everybody there is friends. There’s gotta be one about me and Miranda. Brad Paisley is not doing his job if he doesn’t look down there and go ‘Ha ha!’ You have to address the elephant in the room.”
He went on to reveal, “We’ve had the conversations like, ‘Okay, dude. I’ll sit there and let you kick me in the face a few times.’ I know it’s coming.”
Yes, we’ve all been warned! Over the years, Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood haven’t shied from taking on edgy subject matter, risking the ire of the political correctness denizens of social media and elsewhere. A divorce joke or two or three won’t be a stretch!
Blake Shelton went on to speak on other topics including his fellow coaches on The Voice, particularly Adam Levine which whom he has had a good-natured, longtime feud and all the fun he had mocking Levine on Twitter when he shaved his head.
Along with the extensive interview, Blake Shelton also performed his No. 1 hit single, ‘Sangria’ from his ninth studio album ‘Bringing Back the Sunshine.’ It’s is among the tracks in his new compilation album, ‘Reloaded: 20 #1 Hits.’
