Jacob Whitesides

Yes, it’s another success story, another YouTube cover artist has made the leap from viral videos to record deal and now, a high honor, a live performance at the Times Square Studio in New York City on Good Morning America.

Yes, all this and the Knoxville, Tennessee Jacob Whitesides is just 17 years old and got his start at age 13. A singer and an acoustic guitarist who drew notice for both his covers and original songs. It’s a familiar story by now, and an inspiring one, too, for would-be pop music stars to keep uploading those videos because, after all, you never know who’s watching.

Jacob Whitesides’ new EP album is ‘Faces On Film,’ and it follows upon another EP earlier this year, ‘A Piece of Me.’ Both are released on his own label, Double U Records via BMG. His fan base is growing thanks to all the exposure, not least, touring during the spring with Fifth Harmony which was followed by his first ever headlining tour in Europe. He’s come a long way in a very short time, and who knows where he might be at this rate, a year from now when he’ll be a mere 18 years old.

He reflected upon his musical success in a recent interview with Fusion, saying, “I’ve seen a lot of artists that transition from YouTube to a record label deal and, it’s like, everything becomes not organic.” He went on to express his desire to stay connected to his fans and said, “I don’t really have anything else but them.”

And on Good Morning America they were surrounding him, literally, even as social media lit up with excitement over the performance.
