Gigi Hadid defends her curves and speaks out about the “body shaming” she has experienced, and has harsh words for Internet trolls, bullies who have dogged her since she walked the catwalk at New York Fashion Week. The Australian model shared her thoughts in an Instagram post that’s going viral.
While yes, 20-year-old Gigi Hadid has been known as Cody Simpson’s former girlfriend and for being among Taylor Swift’s circle of friends and occasional guests on the 1989 tour, it’s her work on the runway that has made her such a star.
She’s been a rising star in the fashion world where she has found acceptance for her curvy figure which does not fit the size zero runway norm. She’s been a role model for many and a trailblazer in the industry. Of course trailblazing has its perils and thanks to social media one can sadly find such perils all to quickly.
In a forceful message which quickly went viral, Gigi Hadid said of her detractors and critics, “I represent a body a body image that wasn’t accepted in high-fashion before, and I’m very lucky to be supported by designers, stylists, and editors that I am: ones that know this is fashion, it’s art; it can never stay the same. It’s 2015.”
She goes on to say, “But if you’re not one of those people, don’t take your anger out on me. Yes I have boobs, I have abs, I have a butt, I have thighs, but I’m not asking for special treatment. I’m fitting into the sample sizes.”
Yes, we have witnessed the revolution, long overdue, Gigi Hadid (pictures below) on the catwalk is a triumph. And yes, the change in the fashion industry is beginning to take place even as there are those who obviously have nothing better to do than to attack a woman they don’t know and try to bring shame to her and to anyone who might have her physique. Truthfully, it’s hard to image that she has such critics, but yes, if one does a search one can find the ugliness and the negativity she speaks of.
