Zoe Saldana opens up about post-pregnancy weight loss pressures and offers a cautionary tale for women about striving too hard to get a post-baby body and being reluctant to emerge until they do.
The 38-year-old Zoe Saldana speaks out about what it has been like for her in the months after giving birth to her twin boys earlier this year, her first children with husband with her husband, Italian artist Marco Perego Saldana.
She told US Weekly that she feels to this day the physical impact of her pregnancy. She said, “It hurts to be in heels still! And I remember my sister telling me — she’s a mom of two girls — and she’d be like, ‘Zoe, you will understand when you’re there.’ I thought, ‘I’m going to live forever, heels every day, Louboutin, here we go!’ But there’s something that happens to your body hormonally.”
She addressed the intense pressures that women in the public eye face and understandably succumb to. She said, “I’ve witnessed, throughout my years in this business, women who hide in a cave and don’t come out until they’re a size zero, and that is a very misleading message.”
Zoe Saldana herself has been subject of controversy since her Allure magazine cover in which she revealed her weight as 115 pounds. She faced a significant backlash in those days and it’s clear she’s moving now in the other direction.
Fans of hers are well aware that she’s been upfront and unsparing in honesty about the process of regaining physical fitness, as she has posted many a photo of herself doing grueling workouts, as she offers her diet and fitness tips sprinkled with her own philosophy of what it means to get back in shape post-pregnancy.
She went on to dispense that very advice, saying, “You have to remind yourself that everything takes time. I feel bad for those women who are desperate and want to bounce back three months after having a baby.”
She continued, and added, “It’s more like – ‘Breastfeed! Stay home! Sleep! Your kid is only 3 months old, what are you going to the gym for? Catch up on f—king reruns of some sort!’ I definitely took a break and trusted that my body was going to bounce back when it was ready. I never wanted to push myself.”

It’s just one of several she’s given in recent months, and, of course one does not have to wait for magazine photos, as she is a master of social media, especially Facebook and Instagram (pic below) as she continues to speak out about post-baby weight loss.
