Selena Gomez graces the cover of ELLE magazine and speaks about her former boyfriend, Justin Bieber and what their relationship is like now, and what the future might hold. The pop music superstar also talks about her music in a candid interview which is going viral.
Yes, Selena Gomez’s music shows increasing maturity and reflection, and presumably, autobiographical elements. After, she debuted the ultra-sexy ‘Good for You’ which along with its highly suggestive video was more along the lines of what we might have expected from Rihanna or Miley Cyrus, or even Britney Spears in her heyday.
And rather than continuing to let the music speak, she’s opened up in the ELLE cover story about not just the edgy music but also the romance which has, at times, eclipsed all discussion of her music.
The editorial slant is clear in the auspicious title “How Selena Gomez Is Taking Control of Her Life.” She says of the topic the public can’t get enough of. ”
She did open up about her emotional performance of “The Heart Wants What It Wants,” at the American Music Awards, and said of it, “I was so exhausted. I said, I want this [performance] to be the last time I have to talk about this. And acknowledge this feeling.”
She’s also asked about a particular song that’s gotten so much buzz, ‘Same Old Love,’ and which with lines like “You left in peace, left me in pieces” it’s been up for interpretation. Asked about it, she said merely, “sometimes you’re stuck in the same cycle. This is kind of my ‘forget it’ song. I’m sick of all of it.”
Pressed for details, Gomez said, “I’ll forever support him and love him in a way that…. We grew up together. I think people want it to be different.”
When asked if she meant “more drama” when she said “different” she said, “We’re too young for that. Nobody was married. There was no…. I respect him. And I think he respects me, in a healthy manner.”
After confirming that she had a “thing” with Zedd, her collaborator on “I Want You to Know,” songs, she said, “Finding somebody is not my main focus. I’ve dated people. I’ve been on a few dates, which is really exciting. But I’ve never wanted to get into anything serious, because I kind of did that.”
She continued, and said, “I have my guard up. I like to meet people in organic settings. Hanging out with a group of people and meeting through mutual people.”
And so much is being made of her saying, when asked if she and Justin Bieber would get back together — she is quoted as saying, “I don’t know.” And she’s reported to be “laughing” when saying that. It sounds more like a celebrity’s frustration with the endless probing into personal matters than it does any kind of prognostication, but alas, that’s that. And so we see thousands of “I Don’t Know” headlines popping up everywhere.
Well, regardless, the pictures are lovely and you can see them along with the full interview, such as it is, here.
