Ariana Grande spoke out about the “donut-gate” scandal for the first time in a live TV interview on GMA which also saw her announcing her new single is on the way. Naturally the video has gone viral and you can see it right here and find out what the pop music star had to say.
Yes, it would have been a typical interview with the 22-year-old talking about her new fragrance ARI by Ariana Grande and springing the news of a new single. But naturally that was not the first topic of conversation under the hot lights of the GMA Times Square Studio.
And thus, when asked, she spoke about the incident which has eclipsed all other mention of her. Whereas before she was being called the next Mariah Carey and celebrated for a successful transition from Nickelodeon star to recording music artist extraordinaire with two albums to her credit — ‘Yours Truly’ and ‘My Everything’ — now she had become the subject of mockery for the scandal known as “Donut-gate.”…or “Doughnut-Gate” for the linguistic purists.
So yes, Ariana Grande spoke that incident which surveillance cameras immortalized, as she was seen licking donuts in a California donut shop that were out on display and heard mocking people over their weight and declaring, “I hate Americans.”
On Good Morning America, she said, “First of all, my behavior was very offensive and I apologized. There’s no excuse, or there’s nothing to justify it. But I think as human beings, we all say and do things that we don’t mean at all sometimes.”
She went on to say, “We have to learn for it. That’s part of our process. We have to learn from our mistakes. That’s how we grow.”
When asked what she had learned from the experience, Ariana Grande said she’d learned “what it feels like to disappoint so many people who love and believe in you, and that’s an excruciating feeling.’ She continued, saying, You have to remember your words, your actions have ramifications, and you have to really think about what you’re about to say and do, because it’s important. It’s important to so many people.”
With that bit of business out of the way, she went on to talk about the new fragrance, ARI by Ariana Grande, and said, of it, “It’s really sweet and yummy!” Yes, one almost wanted her to add “like a donut.”
She went on to say, “I’m fairly new to the fragrance industry, I guess. But it is kind of like making a song. You pick a bunch of different notes and they could make a pretty chord or ugly chord and it smells awful or it smells great. It’s just like music.”
Finally, on literally a more positive note, Ariana Grande had a chance to say, “I’m announcing the first single really soon.” She went on to say, “Like really, really soon. Like this week soon.” And with that, the pop music star was able to end the interview by enticing fans and anyone else eager for new music from her, instead of apology videos.
