Hailee Steinfeld has been drawing notice with her debut single ‘Love Myself,’ and now all the movie with the music video. Find out why the Oscar-nominated actress in making her transition to recording artist is getting such a buzz.
The 18-year-old Hailee Steinfeld rose to fame with her memorable portrayal of Mattie Ross in the Coen brothers’ 2010 remake of ‘True Grit’ the classic John Wayne western. She’s also been seen of late in ‘Pitch Perfect 2.’ And now, a few years later, she’s gone from standout teen actor to ingenue. Now, she’s signed a record deal with Republic and may be well on her way to becoming a pop music star.
The video ‘Love Myself’ had its debut on the Today Show and went viral quickly, yes, in part there’s the curiosity when an actress embarks on a singing career. But then, too, some on social media and a few celebrity news outlets take delight in a more visceral and literal interpretation of the song. In other words, it’s sparked an online debate as to whether it is a self-love anthem or a self-empowerment anthem. Not that the two are mutually exclusive, of course.
And that’s the beauty of it. It’s getting a buzz. Seinfeld who was among the co-stars of Taylor Swift’s epic ‘Bad Blood’ music video is now the star of her own, complete with a legion of backup dancers. And some of the edgy costumes she dons are, well, let’s say worth seeing rather than reading about. (So yes, you can quit reading at any time, and scroll down and watch; we promise not to be offended!)
And yes, there are those lyrics — such ambiguous lines as “Gonna love myself, no, I don’t need anybody else.” No question that’s empowerment. And other lines which aren’t so ambiguous.
So along with debuting a new song, a new video, the actress turned singer has got plenty of people hashing over the meanings of words.
And the song is getting a buzz, and it’s not been banned, and, remember, too, the music video did have its debut on a morning television show!
It makes one curious for more. What will Hailee Steinfeld bring along next? There is a debut album in the works, although no title and no release date announced. But in the meantime, we’ve got quite a music video ‘Love Myself’ which you can see below!
