Madonna’s ‘Bitch I’m Madonna’ Music Video Is an All-Star Spectacle

June 17, 2015

Madonna’s ‘Bitch I’m Madonna’ music video, full of musical superstars — Kanye West, Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, Diplo, Rita Ora and more — has premiered and gone instantly viral. Highly anticipated, yes, but has it delivered? Check it out in all of its grand spectacle!

The Queen of Pop continues her reign, four decades and counting, regardless of detractors. Few in music history can boast of such a legacy. Taylor Swift may have recruited an all-star cast for her ‘Bad Blood’ music video, but Madonna shows how it’s done in this amazing video directed by Jonas Åkerlund who previously directed her Grammy-winning ‘Ray of Light’ music video in 1988.

The single is from her new album, ‘Rebel Heart’ and after premiering ‘Living for Love’ on Snapchat, she’s releasing this new video exclusively on Tidal. That makes it a subscriber’s only treat, theoretically at least.

Half of the fun of this video is counting all of the stars. There are appearances from the aforementioned Kanye West, Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, Diplo, and Rita Ora. Now add to that list Chris Rock and Alexander Wang. Check out the 1950s film noir style movie poster below. Released days in advance of the music video it served to heighten the suspense and the dramatic roll-out of what is essentially a mini-movie.

It seems we’re once again in the golden age of music videos; the genre had gotten a bit shopworn for a while and some speculated as to whether it would survive in the digital age. But as we see music artists continue to be more and more inventive. Now the new trend is add as many guest stars as possible, but like anything, there’s an art to it and having an award-winning director at the helm along with a dazzling visual narrative is the key.

As noted, it originally premiered on Tidal and that’s the only place you can watch the star-studded ‘Bitch I’m Madonna’ music video here; a preview is below!
