Rita Ora graces the cover of Marie Claire magazine and opens up about her split with former boyfriend Calvin Harris. She also talks about the movie ‘Southpaw’ which sees her portraying a drug addict, her future music career and other topics.
The 24-year-old Rita Ora is forging a dual career as a music artist and an actress and is finding notoriety in both fields. There’s nothing like being a costar in a provocative movie such as ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ or of being the featured artist of an international smash hit, such as Iggy Azalea’s ‘Black Widow’ to suddenly catapult one to the world’s stage. And that’s just what’s happened in the past several months.
And she is quite stunning on the cover of Marie Claire (photo below); that’s an honor in and of itself.
But Rita Ora has also seen heartbreak as well, following her breakup with DJ and producer Calvin Harris. She told Marie Claire magazine, “There was a reason why I split up with him.” She continued, saying, “And there was a reason why I’m at this point in my life where I feel like I have so much musical freedom, and I don’t have to explain myself to anybody.”
She went on to speak of being “in awe” of the producer and believing at one time that “he could do no wrong.” She continued, saying, “I thought he had my back and that he’d never steer me wrong. But then “I Will Never Let You Down” [her 2014 song, which he produced] came out, and everything started to go a bit weird. I don’t know if it was because business was mixed with personal or what.”
Ora also revealed the single life is not for her. She said, “I’m afraid of being alone. I’m not afraid to admit that, you know. I’m not embarrassed to admit that.” She went on to say “Sometimes love just makes you feel crazy.” She even drew a parallel, saying that “it’s like crack.” She added, “I mean, don’t compare it to that, but you know what I mean. It’s like comfort eating.”
On a much happier topic she spoke of what it was like working with Jake Gyllenhaal in the movie Southpaw; he portrayed a boxer and see a drug addict trying to seduce him. She said, “I arrived on the set, and the makeup artist said, ‘You’re kind of ready to go onstage.’ I’m like, ‘You know I’m playing a crack whore?’ Which shows: Don’t look at me when I’m waking up.”
She also revealed just how star struck she was when she suddenly had the opportunity to record some songs with Prince. She said, “”He came to London about a year ago and his manager contacted my management, and he said, ‘Hey, Prince is in town.’ I was like, ‘What prince? Like the royal family prince? I wouldn’t care about that prince. I care more about actual Prince Prince.’ And he was like, ‘Actual Prince.’ I said, ‘Oh, my God!'”
Yes, who wouldn’t be just that starstruck!
