Carrie Underwood opened up about what motherhood has been like for her, the kind of music she has been working on and what fans can expect, and more in a wide-ranging interview at the CMA Music Festival where she delivered one of her first live performances after giving birth earlier this year.
The 32-year-old country music superstar has made a major return to the music scene, dazzling the world with her post-baby body live television appearance at the CMT Awards where she scooped up three awards. And now at the CMA Music Festival she’s become a sensation on social media where pictures have gone viral of her attired in a miniskirt and displaying an impressively svelte figure.
It was backstage at the festival in Nashville and afterwards, where she gave a press conference, as Billboard reports.
She spoke out about what it was like returning to the stage after having given birth to her first child, a son, in February with husband NFL hockey player Mike Fisher. She said, “I was nervous because I had been away for a while. This is one of the most fun weeks we have in country music, and it definitely is all about the fans. I felt very welcomed. It feels good to be back on stage.”
As for her time away — pregnancy and her first few months of being a mother — she said, “I had a lot more time to write. With the pregnancy, I couldn’t be out on tour like I normally would be, so I definitely filled my time working in another ways.”
She also gave a few hints as to what we might expect, saying, “It’s been interesting, because there’s some songs that I feel like we’ve been listening to over a year. You know you still love them even though you’ve heard them that much, and you’re on the right track. I feel like that’s where we are right now. We’re in a really good place.”
Carrie Underwood won American Idol ten years ago, in 2005 and much has happened since then, as she has gone on to become not just one of the biggest stars to emerge from the series, but one of the biggest music stars, period, with album sales into the tens of millions, and a shelf of awards including seven Grammys.
She reflected upon her decade of success, recently enshrined in her first compilation album, “Greatest Hits: Decade #1″ and said, “Everything happened at such a great time. It’s been 10 years. We had the greatest hits album, and I did get to take some time away from the road. It is like a new chapter in every aspect.”
She went on to day, “I really don’t know what to expect from the next 10 years, but as long as I keep doing what I get to do, and enjoy doing, I call that winning. But we’ll see. I just go where the road will take me. I just want to keep being creative in some way, shape, or form.”
