Sawyer Fredericks is the winner of NBC’s ‘The Voice’ season 8. The Team Pharrell Williams singer, at age 16, is one of the youngest winners and he had been a frontrunner. Get the details and see the video highlights of the start of what may well be an exciting musical career for a fortunate young singer-songwriter and guitarist.
Yes, Sawyer Fredericks is just 16 years old and he is the newly crowned winner and he is a trending topic in social media #SawyerIsTheVoice. Hailing from a farm in upstate New York, he was only 15 years old when he first auditioned for NBC’s ‘The Voice’ season 8 and landed a spot on Pharrell Williams’ team.
It’s safe to say that he is the proverbial “old soul.” With long straight auburn hair stretching nearly to his waist, and his signature fedoras, he’s already well on his way towards an iconic style. And, he’s got the voice and the musical sensibility to match. He describes his style as “contemporary soulful folk.”
The Voice has long been criticized for not producing bona fide music stars such as American Idol with the likes of multi-Grammy winners such as Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood. Could it be that Sawyer Fredericks is finally that breakthrough artist who goes on to international recognition and multiple awards?
Well, time will tell, as they say. In the meanwhile, he has succeeded in capturing the season 8 title. Runner up was Meghan Linsey of Team Blake Shelton, followed by third place finalist Joshua Davis of Team Adam Levine and the fourth place finalist Koryn Hawthorne who was also Team Pharrell Williams. The returning coach Christina Aguilera was completely shut out in the final four.
As for the details of the Sawyer Fredericks biography, he’s drawn notice for his precociousness. His official profile notes that he has been playing guitar and writing songs for several years, and in 2012, when barely a teen, he had already completed his first demo CD and followed up the next year with his first full-length album.
Needless to say, the sudden international exposure adds many exciting chapters to an unfolding story. On finale night, Sawyer Fredericks had a chance to perform with a musical idol, the legendary rocker John Fogerty, playing and singing along with some of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s biggest hits, including ‘Have You Ever Seen the Rain’ and “Born On the Bayou” and “Bad Moon Rising.”
