It’s an irresistibly endearing cover, as Kelly Clarkson is glowingly happy as the mother of that precious young daughter, River Rose, in her arms.

Time marches on, as we have witnessed Clarkson live out her 20s and now her 30s in the public eye. From her rise to fame as the inaugural season American Idol winner, 33-year-old Kelly Clarkson has been a pop music superstar for more than a decade.

And throughout those years, she has also faced criticism for her body size and weight. It’s magnified in recent years with the rise of social media.

She told Redbook, “I don’t obsess about my weight, which is probably one of the reasons why other people have such a problem with it.”

She went on to say, “There are just some people who are born skinny and with a great metabolism–that is not me. I wish I had a better metabolism. But someone else probably wishes they could walk into a room and make friends with everyone like I can. You always want what someone else has.”

That’s been her style all along, to simply not allow herself to be drawn into the fat shaming drama which, of late has put her in the news as the British television personality Katie Hopkins made some especially stinging remarks about Clarkson’s weight which unfortunately have drawn far more attention than they ever should.

In the interview, Kelly Clarkson also opened up about her family life and the stability and solace she has found. Not only is she the mother of her first child with her husband Brandon Blackstock, but she is also stepmother to his two children from a previous relationship.

She spoke glowingly of him saying, “Brandon is not my other half. He’s a whole and I’m a whole. I’ve never believed in someone taking care of me, and that’s probably because I grew up poor and without a lot of family stability.”

She continued, with brazen candor on their marital life, saying, “I always swore ours would not be a relationship where we have to schedule sex. That is never going to happen. We put each other first. I call it the oxygen-mask mentality—take care of yourself first!”
