Julianne Hough graces the cover of ‘Allure’ magazine and opens up about ex-boyfriend Ryan Seacrest. She also spoke about the blackface Halloween costume controversy and other topics in a wide-ranging interview.

While she is a star in her own right, as an actress and singer formerly one of the pro dancers on ABC’s ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ the 26-year-old Julianne Hough was the girlfriend of the multi-hyphenate entertainment mogul Ryan Seacrest for more than two years. It’s been a while since the couple went their separate ways in 2013 and she has of late been dating NHL star Brooks Laich who plays for the Washington Capitals.

She opened up about how she was able to move on. She told Allure magazine about the aftermath of their breakup and how cutting her hair — for the movie ‘Safe Haven’ — was also a way to chart out a new life for herself. She said, “A little while after, when I cut ties with my relationship I chopped more. It was about changing it up and beginning fresh—in the movie but in real life, also.”

While she has moved on, she also revealed that she often runs into her former beau. She said, “It’s hard not to — he’s everywhere.”

Hough also opened up about the controversy she caused when she wore blackface and posed as Crazy Eyes of the hit series ‘Orange Is the New Black’ for Halloween back in 2013. She said, “Ignorance is sometimes not bliss…It was all out of fun and respect for the character.” She went on to say, “I don’t even know how to talk about it because it’s such a sensitive topic. It makes me so sad to think that I was that dumb. I learned a big lesson.”

She also spoke about her involvement with the anti-bullying foundation, The Kind Campaign, saying, “I was bullied in high school.” Revealing that the bullying began when she was 15 years old, she went on to say, that her friends were the “Ishes.” She explained this by saying, “We were Mormon. Instead of saying, ‘That’s the sh-t,’ we’d be like, ‘That’s the ish.”

You can see more of the interview and the cover photo as well as the photo spread here. She opens up about why she chose to return to DWTS this season as a judge rather than a dancer and much more. Watch the behind-the-scenes video of the photo shoot below!
