Ellen DeGeneres Talks Portia de Rossi Split Rumors and Tabloid Stories (VIDEO)

Ellen DeGeneres opened up about rumors that she and her wife Portia de Rossi are splitting, and she also spoke about whether or not the couple plans to have a children. The talk show host addressed these and other topics in a wide-ranging interview on the Today Show.

 Ellen DeGeneres

The 57-year-old iconic comedian and host of her own eponymous daytime TV talk show has a new show on NBC, a sitcom, ‘One Big Happy’ which marks her return to primetime after her trailblazing 1990s sitcom ‘Ellen.’ But not surprisingly, the discussion with Today Show co-anchor Matt Lauer took many directions including the personal.

Ellen DeGeneres was asked about wide variety of tabloid stories claiming she and wife Portia de Rossi are getting a divorce, are not getting along, etc. When Matt Lauer asked her her if she had developed a thick skin to cope with them, she said, “There doesn’t even need to be a skin because it’s not real.” She went on to add, “I’m just more flabbergasted by the fact that someone needs to make up a story. There’s never been a point where we were breaking up or divorcing or fighting. None of these stories are even remotely true.”

She went on to say, “I don’t know the magazines and I don’t have a publicist, so I don’t know. I have a very small team around me…I don’t want to know that stuff, so when someone does bring it up to me, I’m like, “Really?” I don’t know how many times they’ve said that we’ve broken up, but I know that they have.”

She also spoke about children and whether or not she wants to have children. The subject came up as the character on the new sitcom is a lesbian mother. As for herself, Ellen DeGeneres said the possibility, ““I think I would. But that’s not enough to have kids. I love kids. But that’s such a big commitment. And it seems long-term. It seems like a commitment that you have to stick with.”

She continued, saying, “And I just don’t know if I can. It’s too risky. What if I don’t like the kid? What if it turns out that it’s not as cute as I wanted or as talented? I’m going compare it to all these kids that I have on this show that are so smart and so funny. And I’m like, ‘You are nowhere near these kids I had on today.’”

Finally, she concluded, saying, “I think I’m getting too old. They’re cute, but no.”

Whether all that suffices to put down rumors, one wonders, and indeed one does not hold out much hope. A juicy headline, regardless if true or not, is just too irresistible for tabloids it seems.

The talk show host also spoke on some other topics including the ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ spoof she did with Today Show’s Al Roker on her show, and more. You can see the full interview — along with some recent pictures of Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi on the red carpet — below!
