Fifty Shades of Grey’ star Jamie Dornan graces Elle magazine with some sexy photos giving a glimpse of his Christian Grey portrayal even as he shares his thoughts of being part of the big screen adaptation of the erotic bestselling novel.

In his most wide-ranging interview to date on ‘Fifty Shades of Grey,’ Jamie Dornan shares his thoughts on the book itself, the erotic scenes and more as anticipating builds for the Sam Taylor-Johnson directed movie which sees him costarring alongside Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele, the willing submissive in the S&M relationship.

And yes, along with the interview are the photos. It may well be the case that the photos are generating more excitement than what the 32-year-old Irish actor has to say about the role. After all, why shatter the fantasy of this first-ever big screen embodiment of a hitherto character of a hugely popular book.

That’s one of the topics he does take up, the sheer, staggering international success of the EL James trilogy of novels. He tells ELLE, “I wonder what it is about this set of books that has, excuse my pun, penetrated the global market.” He went on to add, “What is it that’s just so on the pulse of what women want?”

Continuing to reflect upon the appeal of the trilogy, he said, “But it’s hard to undermine something that’s so successful. Mass appreciation doesn’t always equate to something good. Think of Hitler! But I think, in this case, it must. It simply must. There’s got to be merit in it if so many people agree.”

Of course that very topic is widely debated and discussed. Also his casting in the role, which some have taken issue with. Dornan, shared the story of the encounter he had in L.A. with one such detractor. “The other day, this woman came up and started shouting at me, ‘Matt Bomer’s the real Christian Grey…And I was like, um, okay.”

He went on to muse about the impossible task of portraying the character, saying, “”I mean, even if you cast Matt Bomer, or Alexander Skarsgård, or Charlie Hunnam, or any of those other guys—we’d all just be doing our best, you know? Christian Grey—he isn’t a real person. He’s a superhero—a myth. He’s like Bigfoot! He’s unbelievable. He’s unattainable. There’s no actor in the world who could live up to that.”

Indeed. We should not be surprised if the fantasy casting goes on and on long after the movie has opened in theaters and later migrated to VOD and other platforms.

Dornan then went on to offer what should be an appealing credential, his ability to tie knots which he learned in teen years as a competitive sailor. He told ELLE, “Knots…I can do a few.” He also cited his role in a British TV show, saying, “I don’t know if you’ve seen The Fall, but I tie up women a lot. This year, I had maybe a week off between wrapping Fifty Shades and starting the second season of The Fall. So it was like seven months straight of tying up women. I think I’d like to do a comedy next.”

There’s much more to the interview, and ELLE gets some comments from the director, Sam Taylor-Johnson as well as the co-star Dakota Johnson among others. And, of course, there are the enticing photos. You can see all of Jamie Dornan’s Elle interview and the pics right here. Check out the latest trailer for ‘Fifty Shade of Grey’ below!
