Gwyneth Paltrow graces the cover of Harper’s Bazaar UK magazine and opens up about her divorce from Chris Martin, and what life has been like for her moving forward after many years of marriage.

The 42-year old Gwyneth Paltrow has been much in the news over the past year. The multi-hypenate — which would include most certainly actress and mother of two as a point of fact and health and fitness expert as point of controversy — is once again making news with yet another interview.

It’s been a year that has seen her become more known for her viewpoints and the intense debate they sometimes stir her forays into areas the aforementioned area of controversy rather than for any particular movie role. And, too, there was that “conscious uncoupling” that received quite a bit of notice. A separation, many would say, by any other name.

Paltrow talked with Harper’s Bazaar UK about that divorce, saying, “Of course, there are times when I think it would have been better if we had stayed married, which is always what your children want. But we have been able to solidify this friendship, so that we’re really close.”

As she did not name any names, one is left with the option of reading much into what she had to say about how women treat each other. This year has also been a year that has seen her seemingly in a public feud with Martha Stewart.

Speaking in generalities, she said, “Women really need to examine why they’re so vitriolic to other women. Why they want to twist words, why they want to read about someone else in a negative light and why that feels good to them.”

She went on to say, “But I also know a huge tribe of women who are loving and supportive of other women, in ways that are completely transformative.”

No doubt reflecting upon her year of continuing entrepreneurship, as she builds her brand as a lifestyle, health and fitness expert, she said, “I think we are a generation of women who are different in a lot of respects, and some of us want to be ambitious, and for it not to be a dirty word. We want to be feminine and soft, we want to be maternal, we want to be sexual, we want to be explorers – and we can be a combination of all of these archetypes. You can be powerful, but you can also be vulnerable. [I have] learnt the power of kindness and the importance of non-judgmental ways of looking at others.”

Regardless of what one may think of Paltrow she brings up important points that, decades after the rise of feminism must still be brought up and discussed as if anew. Her comments have gone viral and, for once, have been largely well received. For who can argue against the need to be kind and respectful of others?! Yet sadly she has been the brunt of unkindness and disrespect for simply speaking her mind.
