The new trailer runs more than two and a half minutes and gives a tantalizing glimpse into the futuristic world of its title which it shares with the Disney theme parks. Thus we know of ‘Tomorrowland’ as it is part of our pop cultural memories.

With its Memorial Day opening, ‘Tomorrowland’ may indeed be the next sci-fi blockbuster. It certainly has all the right elements. George Clooney, who has been gracing headlines of late for marrying Amul Clooney, is now back on the silver screen in one of those gargantuan roles that screen Oscar buzz. With a five o’clock shadow and a world weariness, he portrays an aging boy genius inventor named Frank Walker. It is the youngster, Casey Newton (portrayed by Britt Robertson) who seeks out his assistance when she finds herself experiencing some oddities in her life.

Together they seek out and find the ‘Tomorrowland’ populated with the future’s best and brightest committed to find solutions to the world’s problems. Visually, it is stunning, as we see that futuristic world brought to life, and we also see the two principal characters in some rather contemporary action-adventure shoot-out scenes as they make their escape.

The trailer looks exciting enough, and let’s hope that the movie is much the same, and we’re in for a great ride to kick off the summer blockbuster movie season.

As noted, Brad Bird is the director, and is known principally for directing the blockbusters ‘The Incredibles’ as well as ‘ Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.’ He co-wrote and co-produced the film with Damon Lindelof. Rounding out the cast are Hugh Laurie, Judy Greer, Tim McGraw, and Kathryn Hahn. The movie opens in theaters on May 22nd.
