Robin Thicke debuted his new song ‘Get Her Back’ written for his estranged wife, Paula Patton at the Billboard Music Awards. It was just the latest of his emotional appeals in song on the concert stage. But this time with a new song he has written since their split.

The 36-year-old R&B music superstar Robin Thicke was on the concert stage at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas twice that night. The first time he accepted two awards for his song, ‘Blurred Lines.’ The couple, married since 2005 had been in a relationship since their teen years and they are the parents of a son, Julian Fuego, who is four years old.

In his acceptance speech, he said, ““I’d like to thank my wife for her love and support and for putting up with me all these years.”

It was later that he took to the stage with the well-named new song “Get Her Back.” The Billboard Music Awards performance has certainly not been his first towards that attempt.

It’s been speculated that the infamous and still controversial performance of Robin Thicke and Miley Cyrus at the MTV VMAs which saw the latter bringing twerking, sexually charged tongue wagging and much more is a factor in the downfall of the couple’s marriage.

Should that be the case perhaps no doubt Robin Thicke appears to believe that an emotional and heartfelt performance is enough to bring about the reversal.

Song lyrics are literally ripped from the headlines that he himself has made. He told a TMZ videographer, “I’m just trying to get my girl back.”

Months later he is still trying. The emotional lyrics are full of remorse “All I wanna do is make it right…I gotta cherish her for life.” And addressing her directly, he sings, “I should’ve kissed you longer / I should’ve held you stronger / And I’ll wait for forever for you.”

He encouraged the audience at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to sing along with the chorus and they obliged him.

As with his other performances, there will be much discussion. But a reconciliation of this couple, once seen so affectionate and loving on the red carpet, as the picture above attests, remains to be seen. The story is still unfolding.

Meanwhile, the video of Robin Thicke’s performance of ‘Get Her Back’ is below.
