Beyonce graces the cover of TIME magazine’s annual issue, ‘100 Most Influential People in the World’ and she has debuted her ‘Pretty Hurts’ music video — which of itself makes a powerful statement — all in the same day.

The 32-year-old superstar entertainer does indeed grace the cover of TIME magazine’s special issue with its annual list of the 100 Most Influential People in the World of 2014. As such, Beyonce finds herself in the company of such international figures as Pope Francis, Barack Obama, Vladimir Putin and Angela Merkel and such fellow entertainers as Pharrell Williams, Carrie Underwood and Miley Cyrus.

As always, the list is truly the gamut and Beyonce was chosen for the cover which bespeaks of her influence — in this case of selling magazines with an alluring image — which the list is commemorating. But TIME realizes Beyonce is not mere “glamour” and it should be noted that she was grouped with the ‘Titans,’ not the artists, thus finding herself alongside the likes of Amazon chief Jeff Bezos and Federal Reserve ChairJanet Yellen.

Chosen to write the tribute was none other than Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg who has drawn much attention — and controversy — for her book ‘Lean Forward.’ She said “Beyoncé doesn’t just sit at the table. She builds a better one…Beyoncé has insisted that girls “run the world” and declared, “I’m not bossy, I’m the boss.” She raises her voice both on- and offstage to urge women to be independent and lead.”

Sandberg also notes how Beyonce “took the world by surprise when she released a new album, complete with videos, and announced it on Facebook and Instagram. Beyoncé shattered music-industry rules — and sales records.”

And the ‘Pretty Hurts’ music video is among the 17 from the BEYONCE surprise album and an appropriate choice as it is a powerful commentary of the deleterious effects of the rigorous and impossible standards of beauty by which women are judged. The images are haunting in the video; it’s the down side of beauty and glamour. The high cost of it. We can talk about it to no end, but the images are arresting.
