Kris Jenner spoke on a variety of topics including her split from husband Bruce Jenner, Khloe Kardashian’s divorce from Lamar Odom, Kanye West and more on the ‘Today Show’ in a live interview with Carson Daly and later on the show with Hoda Katb and Kathie Lee Gifford.
Television interviews with the 58-year-old “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” matriarch, executive producer and momager outside of the E! universe have been sparse lately. But the occasion is the season 9 premiere of KUWTK. Thus she graced the famed ‘Today Show’ Studio 1A at 30 Rock with not one interview, but with two.
In the first, with Carson Daly, as Kris Jenner was introduced for the segment, a clip of the show zeroed right in on the topic “speculation” about the relationship of the now separated and living apart couple.
While the life of the Kardashians continues to play out daily in tabloids, blogs, paparazzi photos and social media — and not least the selfies on Instagram that the vast majority of the Kardashian clan are fond of — the show does go on.
Towards that end, Kris Jenner said of the split with her husband and how the family reacted, “My family is so amazing and there’s a lot of love and a lot of support. So I think all of different decisions we make individually, we always seem to come together as a family at the end of the day.” She went on to note that she and Jenner are “best friends” and “talk all the time” and are “happier” than they were before. She added, “It’s life as normal except we’re living in two different houses.”
Asked about Kloe Kardashian filing for divorce from NBA player Lamar Odom and the allegations of cheating and infidelity, Jenner said, “It’s always tough when one of your kids goes through something like this. my heart is always with them 150 percent. And Khloe, it’s tough what she’s been going through but we’re just doing the best we can.”
In the later segment, she addressed still more questions from fourth hour co-anchors Hoda Katb and Kathie Lee Gifford including whether or not she and Bruce Jenner were getting divorced, and she said, “I don’t think we really made that decision. We’re just very happy with the way things are right now.”
Asked whether it was true that Kim Kardashian is thinking of changing her name when she marries Kanye West, the father of her child, North West, Kris Jenner said, “I don’t know if they made a decision yet.” As for what it was like with him living in her house she said, “He’s amazing. he’s a great dad. He spends most of his time with the baby.”
On the tabloid story that Bruce Jenner is getting a sex change, she said, “That is a story that they keep regurgitating from the ’70s.”
Along those lines, Carson Daly posed a more general question as to how the family deals with stories about them in the media, she said, “We all have pretty tough skin. I think that after a while some things just get to you on a certain day. There’s nothing really specific….90 percent of it is more or less B.S. When I read stuff, I’m like, oh my goodness, this is like a creative writing assignment.”
She did not seize the opportunity to deny or refute any of the “creative writing.” Instead she went on to say, “But I think when you watch the show, it gives you a real clear picture.”
And of course, that is the point, after all; don’t read the tabloids, watch KUWTK instead. It’s a show that’s been witness to many changes over the years, and year after year it continues. You can see the full video of Kris Jenner’s interviews below.
