Lady Gaga has spoken out in a lengthy statement about her album ARTPOP and how she has felt betrayed in its development and release. She also discussed why her ‘Do What U Want’ music video is delayed.

Shortly after the release of Lady Gaga’s album ‘ARTPOP’ there was widespread speculation as to its relative lack of success. Although it debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, sales were weaker than with her previous album, ‘Born this Way,’ and sales dropped sharply in the second week of release. The album, which also received mixed to lukewarm reviews from music critics was dubbed, ‘Artflop.’ There was also a rumor — which has since been dispelled — circulated that promotion of the album cost her label, Interscope, $25 million and employee layoffs.

Lady Gaga had previously responded in Tweets, most pointedly, at one point she Tweeted: “I put so much love into my music, into my shows, I make it all for you. I’ll never understand the overflow of hate sent my way.”

But now, she discussed the circumstances at length in her statement. She began by addressing the delay in the ‘Do What U Want’ music video for the second official single of the album. The single features R&B superstar R. Kelly. It is not known if he makes an appearance in the music video.

She said of the unreleased video, “It is late because, just like with the Applause video unfortunately, I was given a week to plan and execute it. It is very devastating for someone like me, I devote every moment of my life to creating fantasies for you.”

Lady Gaga went on to elaborate even as she put her creative process in the context of her travails prior to the release of the album, notably the broken hip she suffered and subsequent recovery. She said, “All my my most successful videos were planned over a period of time when I was rested and my creativity was honored. Those who have betrayed me gravely mismanaged my time and health and left me on my own to damage control any problems that ensued as a result. Millions of dollars are not enough for some people. They want billions. Then they need trillions.”

In the midst of expressing her frustration she also spoke of being “very grateful to the photographers and designers” whom she said always stood by her and who she said had previously made sure “my fans are never aware of the things that happen behind the scenes.” She confessed that after surgery, “I was too sick, too tired, and too sad to control the damage on my own” and added that her label “was not aware” of what was happening.

Lady Gaga expressed her desire to look forward to the future, saying, “The next few months of ARTPOP will truly be its beginning. Because those who did not care about ARTPOP’s success are now gone, and the dreams I have been planning can now come to fruition.”

Addressing fans directly she asked them for their forgiveness and asked them to “open their hearts” to her again. She said, “Let me be for you the Goddess that I know I truly am, let me show you the visions that have been in my mind for two years.”

While the ‘Do What U Want’ video has been delayed, and her message does not indicate when it will be released, in the absence she recently released the studio recording of her duet with the song with Christina Aguilera. Meeting and performing for the first time, the duo debuted their version of the song live on the season finale of NBC’s ‘The Voice’ where Aguilera is one of the coaches.

As for what else Lady Gaga may have in the works, that she alludes to, little is known. She has previously announced the ARTPOP Ball tour. The North American leg of the tour which kicks off on May 4th in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She had to cancel the remainder of her ‘Monster Ball Tour’ of 2013 in the aftermath of her hip injury.
