Liberty Ross opens up for the first time about her husband, Rupert Sanders’ affair with Kristen Stewart in Vanity Fair magazine. The ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ director’s infidelity with the ‘Twilight Saga’ star was shocking news in the entertainment world, with lingering consequences, including the dissolution of the couple’s marriage.

The 35-year-old British model and actress had kept her silence over the affair and resulting scandal, which became a mainstay in entertainment and celebrity news the previous summer after US Weekly published paparazzi photos of her husband, Rupert Sanders, 42, kissing the 23-year-old Kristen Stewart. He was the director of ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ in which she had a co-starring role. Stewart made a public statement and endured the breakup of her high-profile relationship with Robert Pattinson, her boyfriend and ‘Twilight Saga’ costar.

But Liberty Ross held her silence until now. Her story appears in Vanity Fair, along with a photo spread by photographer Norman Jean Roy.

She married Sanders in 2002 is also the mother of the couple’s two children, a daughter and a son, putting her modeling career on hold to raise them. To date she has just a few screen credits, ironically one of them being in ‘Snow White and The Huntsman,’ as Queen Eleanor.

Of her discovery of the infidelity — which he confessed to her just 20 hours before the world found out — she said, “It was horrible…It was really the worst, really the worst.” She went on to say, “I have no words to describe what we went through…But I think, for me, something always has to completely die for there to be a rebirth. And, for me, I feel like I’m going through a rebirth.”

Her brother, the Oscar-winning composer Atticus Ross — and a close friend of Sanders’ — was also interviewed. He was instrumental in helping his sister cope, by connecting her with a PR specialist in “media circuses” and securing for her and her children some measure of privacy and freedom from the paparazzi at the remote home of one of his friends.

Liberty Ross said she visualized being “this sort of Masai warrior.” She went on to say, “I was just going to stand very still and very strong, and just let it all roll past me. I tried to keep as far away from it as I could and to understand that this is my family and it’s the most precious thing to me.”

She has since filed for divorce. She said, ” “I’m not a quitter. I’ve done everything I could to be the perfect wife and mother and really support my husband. But I just didn’t have any more to give, you know?”

She spoke also of forgiveness, saying “We were together for 16 years, and that in itself is really beautiful. And we’ve created two exceptional lives together.”

Liberty Ross’ full story in Vanity Fair, as well as the photos, can be seen here.

Betrayed though she may have been, she remains luminously beautiful as the pictures reveal. It’s good to know of her resilience and determination to move forward.
