Katy Perry’s lyric video for her new single, “Unconditionally,” has debuted. The simple but powerful visual reveals the song’s emotionally charged lyrics which she says were influenced by her boyfriend, John Mayer.

“Unconditionally” is the second single of the 28-year-old pop music superstar’s new album, “Prism.” The song leaked to the Internet a few days ahead of its official release but now she has premiered the lyric video announcing it via Twitter: “The #UNCONDITIONALLY lyric video is starring Janell Shirtcliff & Erika Linder. Directed by Aya Tanimura! Love these ladies!!!”

She co-wrote it with the hitmaker producers and songwriters Dr. Luke, Max Martin, and Cirkut. It has powerful affirm lines underscoring its premise of unconditional love. She begins, “Oh no, did I get too close? / Oh, did I almost see what’s really on the inside? / All your insecurities / All the dirty laundry / Never made me blink one time…”

But the ballad, which has elements of her original contemporary Christian music roots, is much more than the romantic love of one partner for the other, as she made clear in a recent interview with EW,confirming that the song “was influenced” of the multi-Grammy winning music artist, John Mayer, her boyfriend as well as “by Africa.” She elaborated, speaking of her UNICEF trip to Madagascar which she said “changed” her life and “gave” her the song.

“It’s just a simple message about loving someone and accepting them and kind of driving at you don’t have to be so self-conscious, you don’t have to fear, because essentially, everybody has their stuff. Nobody comes stuff-free. Everybody has their things and you’re never going to be perfect, and accepting that and understanding that, especially in a relationship, it makes room for a real, genuine kind of love.”

She will deliver the live debut performance of “Unconditionally” at the 2013 MTV Europe Music Awards on November 10th.

The new album, “Prism,” is due out on October 22 just a few days in advance of Katy Perry’s 29th birthday on October 25th. And John Mayer’s “influence” upon the album is also quite tangible as he co-wrote “Spiritual” with her and is guitarist on “It Takes Two.”
