Watch the first trailer for ‘Hercules: The Legend Begins’ with ‘Twilight Saga’ star Kellan Lutz as the title character, the hero of classic mythology known for his immense strength and courage.

The highly anticipated 3D action adventure movie was directed by Renny Harlin (‘Cliffhanger,’ ‘Die Hard 2′ ‘Deep Blue Sea’). Not to be confused with the 1990s series, “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys” — which cast Kevin Sorbo as its title character — ‘Hercules: The Legend Begins’ is an entirely new iteration of the ancient Greek and Roman hero’s adventures.

This time it is the 28-year-old Kellan Lutz taking on the larger-than-life role as the demigod son of Zeus and the human Alcmene. Lutz portrayed the vampire Emmett Cullen, the adopted brother of Robert Pattinson’s Edward Cullen, in the “Twilight Saga” franchise.

It is the actor himself who introduces the teaser clip while he is on the set of ‘Expendables 3,’ in which he also has a role as Smilee in the upcoming installment of the A-list action star studded franchise. It’s more or less what we have come to expect in this era of trailers introducing trailers. A full trailer will debut over the weekend at New York Comic Con. But any glimpse of the upcoming movie will tide us over as we wait! (NOTE: The full-length trailer has been added below!)

Should the movie achieve blockbuster success it could very well be the actor’s breakthrough role. It’s clear he has the physique for the mythic hero renown for immense strength as we see him as a gladiator wielding a sword and fighting victoriously among gladiators in an ancient arena.

Aside from catapulting the ‘Twilight Saga’ hunk into stardom, we can also hold out hope that the ancient hero gets his proper star treatment. Interestingly enough after his long absence on the silver screen Hercules is the subject of yet another movie due out in 2014; it will star Dwayne Johnson, formerly known as The Rock, as the hero. As ‘The Hollywood Reporter’ first revealed several months ago, it is directed by Brett Ratner (‘X-Men: The Last Stand,’ ‘Rush Hour’) based on the graphic novel “Hercules: The Thracian Wars.”

‘Hercules: The Legend Begins’ also stars Gaia Weiss, Liam McIntyre, Scott Adkins, Roxanne McKee and Luke Newberry. It will open in theaters in March 2014.

Check out the first look below, and come back later to see the full-length theatrical trailer, as soon as it is released!
