‘Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit’ Trailer Starring Chris Pine

October 3, 2013

Watch the first trailer for ‘Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit,’ with ‘Star Trek into Darkness’ star Chris Pine as the iconic character created by the late Tom Clancey. It is the first look at the highly anticipated thriller directed by Kenneth Branagh.

The highly anticipated movie marks Chris Pine’s first turn as Jack Ryan, who has previously been portrayed by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Affleck. As noted it was directed by Oscar-nominated director and actor Kenneth Branaugh (‘As You Like it,’ ‘The Magic Flute,’ ‘Thor’) who also costars in the movie. Additional costars include Keira Knightley, Kevin Costner and David Paymer.

In an unfortunate coincidence, the release of the new trailer comes just two days after the untimely death of the legendary novelist Tom Clancey. The movie poster was released the day after his death. His Jack Ryan character and novels (‘The Hunt for Red October,’ ‘Patriot Games,’ etc.) had been brought to the big screen several times times.

Although the new movie is based solely on the Jack Ryan character rather than one of the novels, still it marks the last movie produced while Clancey was still alive and the first since ‘The Sum of All Fears’ of 2002. It is a reboot of the franchise and a prequel written by Adam Cozad and David Koepp. It and set in the post 9-11 era and the Afghanistan War.

As noted, the movie marks Chris Pine’s debut as the iconic character. The 33-year-old actor has portrayed another iconic character, Captain James T. Kirk commander of the Starship Enterprise in both of the J.J. Abrams ‘Star Trek’ movies, which are also prequels as well as a reboot of the Star Trek franchise.

As a typical teaser trailer we see very little of the movie and its plot details but it builds anticipation and enthusiasm for the long-overdue movie in the Jack Ryan franchise.

The movie will open in theaters on Christmas Day, December 25, 2013. Watch the new trailer below!
