Singer John Mayer is currently being sued for receiving dirty money that is connected to the well known Ponzi Scheme ran by Darren Berg who was just sent to prison this past February.
John Mayer has found himself caught up in the middle of a legal situation after reportedly receiving dirty money through a well known Ponzi scheme that was hatched by former Seattle con man Darren Berg.
The now jailed former businessman who pulled off one of the biggest schemes in history was convicted of stealing at least $100 million from investors that put their trust in his investment company. Mayer is said to have as much as $465,000 out of the missing money according to TMZ and is now being sued by trustees who are trying to track down all of the funds. Others were also named in the lawsuit alongside Mayer.
The ‘Father Daughter’ singer, who just made headlines weeks ago for his supposed split from Pop star Katy Perry and for chopping off all of his hair, was said to have received the money through a booking agency that hired the singer to perform back in 2008. The money that was paid to the artist was collected by the agency, Grabow & Associates, who received the money from Berg’s company. It has yet to be confirmed how the two companies are connected.
While Berg currently sits in prison serving an 18 year sentence it is unclear what will legally happen to the reportedly unaware John Mayer. Since news that John Mayer had received dirty money was revealed the singer’s lawyer has issued a statement. “John Mayer performed at a corporate event in 2008 and was paid for his services. The opportunity was brought to John through his talent agency, CAA.”
