It is Soap Dish time again my friends and this week I dishing all about the behind the scenes shake-up at The Young and The Restless. This is quite the shocker my friends that has many including myself wondering what the heck is going on with the show that has been #1 for years.
Executive producer Maria Arena Bell is no longer with Y&R. Nope she has been replaced by former General Hospital executive producer Jill Farren Phelps. The recent shake-up is quite shocking, especially considering that Bell is the daughter-in-law of Y&R creator Bill Bell. The reason for her ousting according to Maria Arena, who spoke her mind on Facebook regarding her being fired, is a mystery. She revealed she has not head a peep from the powers that be at Sony or CBS. In fact if that wasn’t bad enough she was given the news that she was no longer needed on the soap opera via her husband Brad Bell.
The whole thing is crappy in my book. She has been apart of The Young & The Restless family since 1988 when she began as a writer. I personally think the show is awesome, sure it is different then back in the heyday of soaps but all of the remaining four daytime soap operas are different. I think it sucks the way the situation was handled but that is showbiz I guess.
Although I am a big fan of what Maria Arena Bell has done for Y&R I will admit that is she has to be replaced I am glad that Jill Farren Phelps will be taking over. I think that Phelps is freaking awesome. Her time on GH was one of my favorites in the show’s history plus she is also executive producer for the new Nick At Night drama Hollywood Nights, which is a fantastic shows.
It just goes to show that no one is safe in the soap opera world as each show and the powers that behind those shows are all fighting to stay alive.
