Hollywood movie studio have banned together and decided to suspend reporting the weekend box office numbers in light of the Aurora shootings. It is a small gesture that speaks volumes in my opinion.
Summer is no doubt a season for blockbusters and movie studios are all about winning the blockbuster season if you will. However after the recent tragedy at a screening of “The Dark Knight Rises” Hollywood studios have come together. It was decided that the box office weekend numbers would be delayed to honor those involved in the tragedy that occurred last Friday at 12 midnight in Aurora, Colorado.
Although it was originally just Warner Brothers that decided to delay reporting numbers until Monday, soon all of Hollywood followed. It is a move that is out of respect to the victims and their families, all those that were unfortunately affected by that horrific incident.
It may not seem like a big deal to delay the reporting of box office numbers until the weekend but in Hollywood land it is a really big deal, especially during a time where all studios are fighting to come out on top. However as so many already know this weekend was not about that and I think it is great that the bigwigs at the studios are doing something to honor the victims of the shooting. There is a lot that people can do at a time like this, so however insignificant the delaying of numbers may seems it is still a gesture to do something.
I am not going to sit here and discuss what happened that is for another time. Instead I want to say it is nice to see the Hollywood studios come together to pay their respects in the only way that they really can at this time. That is how I feel about this subject you can agree or disagree.
