robin roberts breast cancer

Robin Roberts of ABC’s Good Morning America announced this morning that she is battling breast cancer.

Robin found out she had breast cancer in an ironic way. She was preparing for a tribute show for her dear friend and colleague, Joel Siegel who also fought cancer. When she went to bed that night she did a self breast exam and found a lump.

At first I thought,

“This can’t be. I am a young, healthy woman.” Nevertheless, I faced my fear head on and made an appointment to see the doctor. Much as I was hoping the doctor would say it was nothing, she did a biopsy and confirmed that the lump I’d found was indeed an early form of breast cancer.”

Robin will have surgery on Friday to remove the lump and will follow with treatment.

Robin Roberts has been with ABC News’ Good Morning America since 1995. Roberts has reported on many important issues and topics for the morning segment, with her most recent being a town hall meeting in Des Moines, Iowa where a meeting with presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) was held. She also traveled to Africa with former President Clinton to bring attention to the AIDS crisis. Roberts is the only morning anchor that has broadcast from a Navy submarine.

Robin Roberts also reported on the Hurricane Katrina devastation in 2005. Roberts is from that part of the country, making it a very difficult situation for her. She has kept viewers aware of the progress of the families and businesses since the devastation.

In May 2005, Robin Roberts was named third anchor of ABC News’ “Good Morning America”.
