There is sad news coming out the music world today. Beastie Boys singer Adam Yauch has died at the age of 47.
Adam Yauch, known back in his Beastie Boy days as MCA, had been suffering from salivary gland cancer for the past three years. He passed away this morning in New York City. Adam is survived by his wife Dechen Wengdu and their daughter Tenzin. It was back in 2009 when Yauch revealed that he was suffering from the very rare form of cancer. It was because of his battle with cancer that Adam was unable to be a part of the Beastie Boys being inducted into the Rock & Roll hall of fame last month. He did however send a heartfelt letter that his band members Adam Horovitz and Michael Diamond read. Here is excerpt from the letter.
“I’d like to dedicate this to my brothers Adam and Mike,” he wrote. “They walked the globe with me. It’s also for anyone who has ever been touched by our band. This induction is as much ours as it is yours.”
I am not going to give you the lowdown on Yauch’s career or the bands for that matter because quite frankly if you were a fan you already know that information. Instead I want to I was one of many who loved the music from the Beastie Boys, seriously License To ill was just a big part of my youth. Every time I hear one of their songs it takes me back to special time in my life. I know that I have some amazing memories listening to them and I am sure you do to, so let me them,
Adam may be gone but the music and his legacy will live in. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
