American Idol News: James Durbin Marries, Danny Gokey Engaged

December 31, 2011

Love is in the air for some former American Idols. Last season’s Top 4 finisher, James Durbin, wed his longtime lady love, Heidi Lowe this evening, and Season 8 AI alum Danny Gokey announced his engagement to girlfriend Leyicet Peralta this week. Get all the details below!

James Durbin

Durbin, the rocker who took fourth place during American Idol’s 10th season, married his girlfriend of several years, Heidi Lowe, on New Year’s Eve in the Santa Cruz Mountains. According to PEOPLE, their 2-year-old son had ring bearer duties during the ceremony. They released a statement to the mag, saying:

“We are so in love and happy that we got to share our special day with our closest family and friends. This wedding was the perfect way to kick off the New Year. We are looking forward to living happily ever after.”

And were there some American Idol alums in attendance at the nuptials? You bet there were. Stefano Langone, Casey Abrams and Haley Reinhart were reportedly on hand to watch the couple say their “I do’s”. Congratulations to both James and Heidi! Indeed, what a great way to start the New Year. Here’s to many years of love, happiness and health! Cheers!

Danny Gokey

Danny Gokey, who competed in the eighth season of American Idol, popped the question this week to his girlfriend, Leyicet Peralta. The news came by way of the website Sophia’s Heart, a site that was inspired by Gokey’s late wife Sophia, who at the age of 27, died three years ago due to complications following surgery for congenital heart disease. I remember watching his story during his run on AI and it was heart wrenching. She had died just four weeks before he auditioned for the competition. It’s nice to see that Gokey has found someone new in his life. He and Peralta released the following statement:

“We are thankful for so many of the blessings God has given us.  It is our desire to see homeless children and families be kept together and lifted back on their feet through the help of Sophia’s Heart. We love and appreciate you all.”

They are planning to wed in late January 2012 and are requesting that in lieu of any wedding gifts, donations should be made to Sophia’s Heart.
