Kelly Ripa’s New Host Follies

The search for Kelly Ripa’s new host continues this week as the revolving door continues to showcase guest hosts on the show. This week hottie Josh Groban will host for three days — Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. And so continues a long litany of possible replacements for Regis Philbin who retired from the show last month in November.

Kelly ripa new host

One of the cuties from Dancing with Stars, young and handsome Derek Hough tried out for the job yesterday. As much as I adore him and his bubbly sister, Julianne, I have to admit that he was uncomfortable and weak. No chemistry, which is the one thing that Regis and Kelly had together. Jerry Seinfeld did the gig a few days last month. Seeing Jerry made me wonder what he has been doing since his show went off the air a million years ago. What a waste of talent! And let’s face it, he is too good for a daytime talk show in his own mind if not in everyone else’s mind.

Have to confess that I never really liked Regis. Something about his smug and I am better than you but I will disguise it as folksy attitude that rubbed me the wrong way for years, whether it is hosting the Regis and Kelly show or Who Wants to be a Millionaire. And yet, just like CNN has had an impossible time trying to replace Larry King, Kelly Ripa’s new host is proving to be as elusive as beaches in December.

Ten years ago the show went through the same process trying to replace Kathie Lee Gifford. Everyone loved Kathie Lee. We knew her as we knew our poor aunties, from her favorite recipes to her horrible, cheating husband. And when she announced her own retirement from the show, everyone wondered how the world and Regis would get along without her.

But in that case Kelly Ripa proved an easy choice and at least equal to the task. She instantly won over our hearts with her charm and delicious humor, even though somewhere underneath we all suspect she is a grumpy b*tch in private.

After Josh Groban tries his hand as Kelly Ripa’s new host, the following week will see four men make their first appearances. Taye Diggs will host on Monday, Kevin Jonas on Tuesday, old and boring Bryant Gumbel on Wednesday. Michael BublĂ© will host the Thursday and Friday shows so he gets at least a second chance.

Now for the readers’ turn. Tell us in the comments who you think should be Kelly Ripa’s new host permanently.

I think it should be me:) You all need someone new in the celeb world.
Rosie is washed up,Ellen would be great to compete with, and well Oprah is on the way to bigger and always better.
So why not get the combo queen and take me.
What would it hurt. Kelly needs someone whitty and fresh.
Well then again so does the world:)
    Good luck finding someone.
By the way why does it have to be a man????

I would love to see Neil Patrick Harris as a permanent co-host. He and Kelly have great chemistry! Anderson Cooper would have been awesome, but I guess he’s busy with his own daytime and nighttime shows.

Kelly sounds like she just graduated from hi school, likes to giggle a lot, n surely not an intelligent conversationalist. She reminds me of someone that stays at home n get the girls over her house 4 coffee n chats about simple things, really about nothing. But then again, thats the kind of audience u have. I watch this show sometimes bc of Regis who has a light humor.
BTW Derek Hough did not try out for the job, he just did it for fun.

Kelly, you are an awesome host and could probably handle the entire roll without difficulty. Different guest co-hosts gives a “variety ” show feel. Personally, I though Michael Buble was such a compliment to your show and your personality. He has such a warm personality and you are like a sister to him! I usually work during the weekdays, but had a vacatiob this week. I watched you every day. Thank you and God bless your family! (I am an old time “all my children” fan. I remember you as Haley, Benny’s main squeeze!)
