Ruben Studdard and his wife of three years, Surata Zuri McCants, a former flight attendant, are calling it quits. The two met in 2006 when Ruben was in an Atlanta Wal-Mart signing CD’s for fans. They dated for two years before marrying in 2008, during a private wedding held at Canterbury United Methodist Church in his hometown of Birmingham, Alabama. As for the reason the two are going their separate ways, the 33-year-old American Idol Season 2 champ cited the ever popular ‘irreconcilable differences’. Byron Perkins, Studdard’s attorney, said Wednesday:
“Ruben Studdard and Zuri McCants Studdard have separated, and they are in the process of seeking a dissolution of their marriage. They each request the public respects their privacy during this trying time in their lives.”
