Today marks the end of an era as All My Children goes dark after 41 years on ABC. In honor of that this week’s Soap Dish is an ode to AMC if you will.
After watching the amazing tribute to the long running soap opera on The View I thought I can’t let this day pass without honoring the show. Yes I realize it will be back online in a few months but it will not be the same and I am not just talking about a Pine Valley without Erica Kane but that is topic for another column.
The biggest shout out as we say good-bye to the beloved soap has to go to the amazing Agnes Nixon, without her there would have been no show. It has been her baby that she nurtured and watched grow. She brought us super couples like Tad and Dixie and Haley and Mateo, gave us ground breaking stories like Bianca’s coming out and wedding, plus let us not forget she brought the one and only Erica Kane into our lives. Yes Agnes is a genius in her own right, who I thank for giving me an alternate universe to go to for an hour to escape reality and for giving me characters that are so near and dear to my heart.
There is a long list of talented people who have played such memorable characters on All My Children and although I would like to give them all a shout that could take awhile. Instead of naming them all I want to say to all of those who have spent time in Pine Valley your talents, your dedication and devotion to fans and the show over the years means the world to me. That goes for all those behinds the scenes people that were never seen, every single one of you deserves kudos for a job well done.
AMC has been a staple for so many people for so many years. There are so many memories that I can’t pick just one to share, so instead I will say thanks for all the memories AMC. You may be gone for now but you will never be forgotten.
